a post with animals :)

I wanted to thank all of you who commented about the exhibition! I really like reading comments :)

So today i don't have many drawings, since I was gone for a few days, and even though I though I would draw allot I basically slacked even more hehehe... But I did make this deer, following a children's  book of how to draw animals :P

As you read before, two of my drawings were stolen at the exhibition.. and saldy one was already sold. So  I made a new one for the buyer and added a nice postcard.

I really like the postcard and want to make more in order to sell them better.
In our house, we are also turning the guest room to a place where I can draw and paint :) which I'm really looking forward to!!! Until now I have to use the dining table or share the working table, which is fine, since it is really a laptop-working place.

So I will keep you posted! :D :D

And the week just started

At the beginning of this week I had amazing news but at the same time it was the beginning of a chain of events that made me want to hit my head on the table and cry. Thus let me explain:

On Monday at 8am I had my driving exam and passed! When i got home Joost got a call that he has been accepted for the phd he wanted! So happy!

That day I also took my computer to get checked up.. They replaced the thing that was broken and cleaned it. So I got a shiny Mac back :) but when I got home the train wreck started.. My backup hasn't been great apparently. So I lost all my photos of the last 7 years and all my applications. So I don't have Microsoft office or photoshop!

To continue, on Tuesday while visiting the bar where my drawings are hanging, I realized there were 2 missing! One I which I had sold! Drama! Today they called to confirm they did not have them an most probably were stolen.

But even though it was quite horrible, the morning after i realized I had lost my precious photos, I had an enlightening moment: there are far more important things in life. And there are worst things that can happen.

So today I decided to draw the picture I want to leave at the Bar (yes, even though stuff was stolen). I guess it is a "thank you" for giving me a chance, but also for myself a "thank you". I also tried out a new approach of making the drawing more as a "scene" and add depth.

Oh and as a bonus I share my small paintings at my oil painting class! More on that story next time ;)

Awesome News!

I have some great news for this post as well as a very good reason of why my update is yet again a bit late :D

Last wednesday, I had the opening of my first exhibition! I had mailed a cafe/bar to ask if I could hang up my stuff and they called me last week to tell me they were very interested! So story short, I had to choose my drawings, buy frames and I had to cut even the matting since my sketchbook has a specific length.. well stress in small words.

The opening was great! I sold half of the things that were hanging :) so i'm really excited! I want to share some pictures with you! (all done by my frien Hendrik Weiler)

Houses Theme

Deep Sea themes!

The mural! took me about 4 hours? Ah and thats me (curly hair) with my friend Star :)
Also I have officially opened my shop at Society 6 :) WebShop as well as my new website http://curlysketches.nl/  that I hope you guys like.

And in order to finish with a new sketch:

Back online

Ah dear readers (if there are any left)

As many promises I have broken in the past, I am back! ;)
New year, new motivations, new expectations.
Throughout my vacations I have finally accepted my pathetic status as "unemployed" and have decided to make the best of it, instead of falling into a black pool of despair.

So for this new year, I have subscribed myself to oil painting classes, I am thinking about learning German or Japanese and of course the continuation of the epic search for a job. Keeping this blog regularly updated is also something I want to continue, as well as my webshop project at Dawanda (already got a call to ask if I was planning on continuing..) So I am hereby inviting you to my (quite empty) shop :D SHOP LINK I have also found other nice websites like Society 6, but I first have to get my paypal account working again.

Enough of the rambling!

I first want to share my holiday season cards :) Sadly I started as always a bit too late.. so I could only make 5 hahaha. But I want to use the stamps I bought for upcoming birthdays and Valentine cards as well.

The next two are sketches. The EDM challenge number 5: Draw your bed! I quickly sketched out of memory my room with my bed in it. The cat on the bed is a stuffed animal... yeah.
Next sketch is my final version of Tjido in cartoon style AND I LOVE IT! He looks awesome!

This last drawing was an idea of my good friend Star. She told me about a painting she had seen on TV  and I though I would recreate it, but apparently I didn't understand what she meant haha but ended with this: A 2 sided drawing!

Gifts and a new project

I hope that I can slowly regain my previous tempo of posting stuff.
So here I go!

I have been doing some gifts for friends lately, since some are leaving, and others graduating... Its hard to find good gifts, specially for male friends haha.

Also, recently I met the owner of Pesto Bar here in Amsterdam, and the night we went to have dinner at his lunch room, I doodled a bit. When he sat with us to drink a wine, he told me I shoudl try to hang my stuff at a bar or cafe. So I took his word and yesterday I send an email to a local place that's new and quite edgy. Hope to hear from them soon!

And this is what I'm working on now: Octopus!

And just to end up with a funny sketch, I am enjoying having a dog tons!!! And its hard not to make a big fuss and become one of those people :P But yes, I have lots of ideas to make comics. Though drawing dogs is freaking hard! I have to sit one day and make various studies...

So yes, Tjido is a bit or a reactive pup, he loves to play and barks for other dogs attention. We're working on it ;)

Sorry!

OMG!
It has taken me a month to update... a new record! I'm soooo sorry!

So since I did not get my job in Spain I have been a bit busy with looking for new jobs, stressing about it, taking the theory driving exam and of course our little "wolf".

But thankfully I have a colour drawing I was trying to save for a decent post but whatever!
EDM Challenge 4! Draw your mug or cup :)

I really like this sketch because I did it with feltip pens which I do not normally use. They also remind me of home, since every trip to mexico I bring a few back.

I also realized that I haven't told you guys I have a Dawanda shop! :D since I am looking for a job, I decided to open my shop and see what I could get. Also a nice way to have another project going on. I will post the link later, but if you are very curious it is called Curly Sketches :P

Thank you for reading and I promise a decent update at the end of this week!

Autumn has begun

The perks of having a dog include the trips to the forest!
I live quite close to the city's forest, but rarely went there...

Now I have been there 2 weekends in a row! And looking for mushrooms is the best haha.

So of course my autumn drawings are mushrooms. I have been fascinated with them since I found that children's book and did THESE in mixed media. But now some drawings:

To finish this post I am adding some sketches of my dog Tjido, which I am happy about because they are the first and in the end, dogs are hard to draw... I have cheated though :P I used pictures instead of sketching him live. That will be the next challenge! The shape of his muzzle is hard...
